Providing a contraceptive method on the same day a patient is counseled and decides which method they would like is considered to be a patient-centered best practice. Many patients are able to receive prescription methods in this fashion. The provision of long-acting reversible contraception, and sometimes injectable contraception, during a non-contraception visit (such as an annual exam) can be logistically challenging. Patients are often advised to schedule a return visit for long-acting methods, yet many of them are not able to return for a second visit. Here you will find resources for providers and administrative staff on the same day provision of all methods of contraception.
